A seasoned businessman. Jamaican-born Peter McConnell formerly Chairman of Worthy Park Estate Limited (now Director), United Estates Limited/Trade Winds Citrus Limited, Coconut Industry Board, Montego Freeport Limited. Mr McConnell was also Director of FirstCaribbean International Bank, Dyoll Group Limited, Air Jamaica, Seprod, Sugar Producer’s Federation, Sugar Manufacturing Company of Jamaica and Deputy Chairman of the Urban Development Corporation. He is currently a Director of Maritime Authority of Jamaica, Sugar Industry Authority. As our Chairman, Peter’s business acumen and deep roots in agriculture adds gravitas to our group.
Dr. Wayne McLaughlin, Professor of Molecular Biology in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences, is the recipient of two Fulbright Fellow awards, (1994,2004) as well as the Institute of Jamaica’s Silver Musgrave Medal for Science (2001). Prof. McLaughlin established Caribbean Genetics (CARIGEN), the first and only private facility in the English-speaking Caribbean which assists in establishing biological relationships through DNA testing, and published over 30 original papers in international peer reviewed journals. Much of Dr. McLaughlin’s research focuses on characterizing and eradicating plant diseases caused by virus and bacteria and we are very pleased to have him working alongside us.
In 2015, as Founder & CEO of MedCannAccess (MCA), Blaine Dowdle sold MCA to Canopy Growth Corporation (CGC), Canada’s first publicly-traded medical cannabis company. MCA became the cornerstone of CGC’s retail strategy for its Tweed division and Dowdle joined Canopy as its Head of International Development and Special Projects. Dowdle also consulted with numerous governments on medical cannabis policy and, through projects in Jamaica and Antigua, his long-time love for the Caribbean deepened. Now, Dowdle has again taken on the role of CEO and pioneer—implementing the vision for Itopia Life and Jamaica’s new medical cannabis industry.
Andrew Moody-Stuart is a maverick at heart with a love for people and the medicinal possibilities of ganja. As owner and managing director of the highly touted Stingray City Antigua, he has become the consummate host by curating unique visitor experiences. Joan is a Jamaican born, cultural activist and intellectual property attorney. She is the former Manager of Copyright at the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office, and is certified by the World Intellectual Property Organisation in advanced intellectual property asset management. She has acted as an Adviser to the Minister of Culture, and served on the Boards of the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association, Manifesto Jamaica and the Creative Production and Training Centre. Joan spent several years as a yardie-in-exile, living in Grenada, Canada, Trinidad & Tobago and Australia, and brings this global perspective to our Jamaican offering.
Venezuelan born, St.Maarten bred, Josiah is our Master Grower and V.P. of Cultivation. Josiah is driven by the economic opportunity that agriculture provides to youth in the Caribbean and has been instrumental in spearheading environmental and agricultural projects in his island home. Since moving to Jamaica he has connected with the local growing community and continues to refine his practices. He is an accomplished grower, who speaks five languages…to our plants!
Jori was born and raised in the Netherlands. He has extensive experience operating smoke shops, with particular oversight in inventory management and client care. A lifelong grower and winner of the High Life Cannabis Cup, he is one of our directors. He has embraced the optimal sun-grow conditions Jamaica offers and now traverses our property like a real Landman.
